Euthermia (2024)

for saxophone quartet

PROGRAM NOTES The adjective euthermic means “inducing or promoting warmth” (Merriam-Webster). In the process of hibernation, euthermia refers to the process of arousal, in which a mammal returns to its normal, warm body temperature at the end of winter. “Euthermia” is divided into two sections: the first is slow and atmospheric, and the second is energetic and lively. The piece gently reflects the process of euthermia with its slow rise from slumber to spring’s awakening.
